Ghost Island Tour (Gouqi)

The Chinese island of Gouqi belongs to the Zhoushan Archipelago, which consists of around 400 islands and is located off Hangzhou Bay. This archipelago is the largest in China. Traditionally, the local population made a living from fishing. However, due to the country’s rapid economic development, construction, and industrial growth, residents of Gouqi Island began relocating elsewhere, and the fishing villages have gradually become deserted.

On Gouqi Island, you can see several completely abandoned fishing villages. The sturdy stone houses remain in very good condition, and the roads are also paved with stone. Since no one lives there anymore, nature is reclaiming the space, giving these villages a mysterious charm and a mystical atmosphere.

The main mode of transportation in Zhujiajiao will be small boats steered by local fishermen. Standing at the stern and gently rowing, they’ll take you from one part of the village to another in just a few minutes.
