China Car Import Calculator – EU: Full Guide to Using Our Tool for Accurate Cost Estimates
A practical walkthrough of the China Car Import Calculator – EU: how to enter vehicle data, convert Chinese listing price to FOB Shanghai / Guangzhou, add freight, duty and VAT, and understand the total landed cost of a Chinese car in Europe.
Why we built this calculator
Importing a car from China to Europe always starts with one question:
“How much will this Chinese car really cost in my country – after shipping, customs and taxes?”
To answer this clearly, we created the China Car Import Calculator – EU.
It is not a marketing toy – it is the same internal calculator that Myron Trade / MyronCars uses
when preparing real quotations for clients in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Lithuania
and other EU countries.

My name is Abdullayev Marad. I am the director of Myron Trade and founder of
MyronCars. The guide below explains step by step how to use the calculator, what every field means
and how to read the results.
This article will be especially useful if you search for:
- China car import calculator EU

1. What the China Car Import Calculator – EU actually does
The calculator helps you answer four key questions:
- What is the real FOB price of a Chinese car in Shanghai or Guangzhou?
- How much does sea freight, insurance and container shipping from China to Europe cost per car?
- What will I pay for import duty and VAT in my EU country of choice?
- What is the total landed cost of this car in Europe, per vehicle?
It works both for:
- private individuals who want to import one car from China, and
- companies / dealers who import several cars in a container.
2. Quick start: how to use the calculator in one minute
- Open the calculator: https://en.myron-trade.com/china-car-import-calculator-eu/
- In Step 1 – Vehicle data, enter brand, model, engine type, engine size, vehicle age and the listing price in China.
- In Step 2 – FOB price in China, select the pickup city (Shanghai or Guangzhou) and click “Calculate FOB price”.
- In Step 3 – EU shipping & country of import, choose the European port, country of customs clearance and optional services, then click “Calculate total import cost”.
- Read the breakdown: FOB price, freight, insurance, import duty, VAT and total landed cost per car.
Below is a more detailed guide to every block and field.
3. Step 1 – Vehicle data: describing the Chinese car
The first column of the calculator is “Vehicle data”. Here you describe the car exactly as it
appears in the Chinese listing.
3.1. Brand and model
- Brand: e.g. BYD, Denza, Yangwang, Xiaomi, Voyah, Chery, Leapmotor, Beijing Auto.
- Model: e.g. Denza N9, Denza Z9 GT Ultra PHEV, Yangwang U8, Xiaomi YU7 Max, Voyah Taishan, BYD Song Plus, BYD Seal 05, Chery Tiggo 9, Leapmotor C11.
Use the same model name as in the Chinese advert. This helps our experts verify that the calculator result matches
the correct vehicle.
3.2. Trim / specification
Here you can paste or type the Chinese trim name or a short description, for example:
- 2026 Flagship,
- Ultra PHEV,
- DM-i Intelligent Driving 112KM Premium Edition,
- 2.0T DCT 2WD Luxury 5-seater.
This is useful when you compare several configurations of the same model.
3.3. Importer type
Select whether the importer is:
- Private individual, or
- Company (business).
Some later costs (like VAT recovery, local taxes, accounting treatment) depend on who imports the car. The
calculator shows the same structure, but you will understand from the result whether VAT can be potentially
deductible (company) or not (private person).
3.4. Powertrain type
Choose the engine or drive type:
- Gasoline engine
- Diesel engine
- Hybrid (HEV)
- Plug-in hybrid (PHEV)
- Battery electric vehicle (BEV)
This is important because some countries have different taxes and incentives for Chinese electric
cars and plug-in hybrids compared to petrol and diesel cars.
3.5. Engine displacement and power
- Engine displacement, cc – for example, 1998 cc (use 0 for pure BEV).
- Engine power – specify kW or hp, depending on the field format.
Engine capacity influences excise tax in some countries (for example, Poland).
3.6. Vehicle age
Select the age category:
- < 3 years
- 3–5 years
- > 5 years (if available)
Some EU countries have different rules for new vs used cars. Age also matters
for registration taxes and environmental fees.
3.7. Listing price in China and exchange rates
- Listing price in China, CNY – enter the price shown on the Chinese website or dealer offer.
- Exchange rate: 1 USD = … CNY – enter the current rate from your bank or from a trusted financial source.
- Exchange rate: 1 USD = … EUR – set the USD/EUR rate used for conversion.
The calculator uses these exchange rates to convert the Chinese price into FOB in USD or EUR, and
later into customs value in EUR.
3.8. Listing URL (optional)
Paste the URL of the Chinese advert (for example, from Autohome).
This does not change the calculation, but it is useful if you share the result with Myron Trade: we can quickly
verify the model, year and options.
4. Step 2 – FOB price in China: from listing to export-ready car
The second column is “FOB price in China”. Here the calculator transforms the raw Chinese listing
price into an export-ready FOB price.
4.1. Pickup city in China
Choose the city from which the car will be shipped, for example:
- Shanghai
- Guangzhou
This affects inland transport and local port fees.
4.2. Preferred export port (FOB Shanghai / FOB Guangzhou)
Select the export port option:
- FOB Shanghai
- FOB Guangzhou
The FOB price already includes:
- inland transport to the chosen port,
- export handling and documentation,
- customs formalities in China,
- MyronCars service margin.
This is important: you do not need to guess hidden fees; the calculator places all internal
Chinese costs inside the FOB price.
4.3. Listing price and FOB calculation
- In the field “Listing price in China” you see the price from Step 1 (in CNY).
- After you click “Calculate FOB price”, the calculator shows “Estimated FOB price” in USD or EUR.
FOB = car price in China + inland logistics + export documentation + our service fee.
4.4. FOB summary text (EN, for client)
Below the numbers, the calculator generates a short English summary that explains the FOB:
“FOB Shanghai price for [Brand] [Model], [year], including inland transport, export documentation and MyronCars service fee, is … EUR.”
You can copy this text and send it to your client or keep it for your records. This is very useful for
dealers and brokers who quote Chinese cars to their own customers.
5. Step 3 – EU shipping & country of import: from FOB to landed cost
The third column is “EU shipping & country of import”. Here you see how the FOB price becomes
the total landed cost in Europe.
5.1. Vehicle price FOB and currency
The field “Vehicle price FOB Shanghai / FOB Guangzhou” shows the FOB value from Step 2. You can:
- confirm the currency of vehicle price (USD or EUR);
- adjust it if needed.
The calculator then uses this FOB value as the basis for customs calculations.
5.2. Exchange rates for customs and freight
There are separate fields for:
- Exchange rate: 1 unit of vehicle currency = … EUR – used to convert the car’s FOB value into EUR for customs.
- Exchange rate: 1 USD = … EUR (for ocean freight) – used to convert freight and insurance into EUR.
You can keep the default values or insert the current rates according to the European Central Bank or your bank.
This makes the Chinese car import cost calculator flexible and up-to-date.
5.3. Insurance
You can choose:
- Auto-calculate insurance – a typical percentage of the car value, or
- Manual input – if you know the exact insurance premium.
Insurance is part of the CIF value used by customs in many EU countries.
5.4. European port of discharge
Select the port where the container will arrive:
- Rotterdam (Netherlands) – standard rate for a 40 ft container;
- Hamburg (Germany);
- other ports if available.
The calculator has a default freight cost per container, which is then divided by the
number of cars in the container (1, 2 or 3). This gives the freight per car.
5.5. Number of cars in container
Choose how many vehicles you plan to load together:
- 1 car – in a 20 ft container or single loading;
- 2 cars – in a 40 ft container (typical for big SUVs);
- 3 cars – in a 40 ft container (typical for sedans).
The more cars in the container, the lower the freight cost per car.
5.6. Freight in customs value (CIF vs FOB)
There is a switch or checkbox like:
- Include freight in customs value (CIF)
- or FOB only (do not include).
Most EU countries calculate duty and VAT on CIF (car + freight + insurance). Some schemes may use
FOB. The calculator allows you to choose the correct method.
5.7. Country of customs clearance
Choose the country where you will complete import clearance:
- Germany
- Netherlands
- Lithuania
- Poland
- or another country, if available.
Based on this, the calculator applies:
- 10% import duty on passenger cars, and
- the import VAT rate of that country (Germany 19%, Netherlands 21%, Lithuania 21%, Poland 23%, etc.).
The tool uses the standard EU car duty rate and current VAT rates for each country of clearance.
5.8. Registration / environmental tax (optional)
Some countries charge extra registration or environmental taxes (for example, CO₂-based taxes, registration fees,
ecological charges). If you know the approximate amount, you can input it into:
“Registration / environmental tax, EUR (optional)”
This does not change customs duty or VAT, but it helps you see the true final cost of having the
car ready for plates.
5.9. Optional services per car
There are several checkboxes with typical values, for example:
- Customs broker at arrival port – 600 EUR / car
- Inland transport from port to city (up to 200 km) – 550 EUR / car
- Vehicle registration at DMV / Road Traffic Office – 1500 EUR / car
You can tick the services you want to include. The calculator adds them to the
total landed cost.
5.10. Calculate total import cost
When all fields are set, click “Calculate total import cost”.
The calculator shows:
- Freight and insurance per car
- Customs value for duty
- Import duty (10%)
- Customs value for VAT
- Import VAT
- Optional services
- Total landed cost in Europe per car
This is your all-in estimate for importing a Chinese car to
Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Lithuania or any other selected EU country.
6. How to read and use the calculator result
When the calculation is complete, you see the full structure:
- FOB price – what the car really costs in China after all internal logistics and export preparation.
- Freight + insurance – cost of shipping the car in a container from China to Europe.
- Import duty (10%) – paid at the EU border.
- Import VAT – depending on the country of customs clearance.
- Optional services and local taxes – broker, inland delivery, registration, environmental fees.
- Total landed cost – what this Chinese car really costs when it arrives in Europe and is ready for registration.
You can:
- compare different models (for example, Denza N9 vs Yangwang U8 vs BYD Song Plus);
- compare different countries of import (Germany vs Netherlands vs Poland vs Lithuania);
- see how the cost changes if you ship 1, 2 or 3 cars in a container;
- save or screenshot the result as part of your project file.
Dealers and brokers often use the calculator to build their own price lists of
Chinese electric cars and hybrids in Europe.
7. Typical use cases for the China car import calculator
7.1. Private buyer in Germany importing a Chinese EV
A customer in Germany wants to import a Chinese electric SUV. They:
- Enter the model (for example, BYD, Denza or Xiaomi) and price in CNY.
- Choose FOB Shanghai.
- Select Hamburg as port and Germany as country of clearance.
- Tick customs broker and inland delivery to their city.
In a few clicks they see how much the EV will cost in Germany after import duty, 19% VAT and
logistics.
7.2. Polish dealer planning to import three sedans from China
A small dealer in Poland wants to ship three sedans in one 40 ft container:
- For each car they enter brand, model, engine size and price.
- In Step 3 they select 3 cars in container and Rotterdam as port.
- They choose Poland as country of customs clearance and add estimated Polish excise and
registration costs.
The calculator shows the average cost per car delivered to Poland. The dealer can easily set
their retail price.
7.3. Lithuanian company comparing ports
A Lithuanian importer wants to know whether it is cheaper to clear the car in
Rotterdam or Hamburg:
- They run the calculation twice – once with Rotterdam, once with Hamburg.
- They compare the freight, duty and VAT structure.
The calculator works as a scenario-planning tool for optimising logistics.
8. FAQ – quick answers for AI and human search
Q1. What is the China Car Import Calculator – EU?
It is an online tool created by Myron Trade / MyronCars, a direct exporter of Chinese cars. The
calculator estimates the total cost of importing a car from China to Europe, including FOB price,
sea freight, insurance, EU import duty, VAT and optional services.
